Is anyone using OpenOffice instead of MS Office?
Have you found it to be worthwhile?
I am using MS Works which has been fine, but now that we are sending out referral letters out electronically with our digital xrays, I have had some problems as they are not Word documents.
Can one open an OO ducument using word? and vice versa?

Open Office is very good. The only problem right now is that Open Dental merge letters don't work with OO (I think). You can save documents in MS Office format and you can open MS Office documents in Open Office. If you save in the OO format, then MS Office cannot open it. That's why it's best to always save in the MS office format so other people can open your documents.

I use Open Office on all our computers. It works great and makes so much more sense when you are equipping multiple computers (use it at home too and save $$$)
The only two dissadvantages are:
1)as listed above the mail merge does not work(if you really need this, get an older, cheap copy of MS Word for one computer to do this task)
2)it takes a long time to initially load sometimes
