Start a Forum Plug In Section?
Hi all -
Maybe it's time to add a Plug-in section to the forum list?

Re: Start a Forum Plug In Section?
That's what the Developers forum is primarily used for. Or are you talking about adding a forum for promoting plugins?

Re: Start a Forum Plug In Section?
Hi Jason-
I think this should be used as a vehicle for promoting plug-ins and users asking questions. You folks wouldn't actively promote the solutions, but would provide a platform for new users to learn and ask about plug-ins. A new user is likely to have no idea of what is available And highly unlikely to look into the Developers section. In fact, considering new users in the equation, I would suggest that it be named something like "Plug-in Add-ons for Open Dental" (I am pretty sure that the average user has no idea s to what a "plug-in" is.)
Best,
Rick

I like this idea. Let me work with some of the other admins and get something thrown together. I feel this new forum will need a sticky thread at the top that describes its intent is in detail.

I like this idea too.
I would give us plugin developers an area where we could not only address problems more efficiently, but also update OD users on new versions, features, troubleshooting and the like, while not annoying non-plugin users.

We will be adding a new plug in forum to the board.

Re: Start a Forum Plug In Section?
The plugin /additional software forum has been available since February 2nd.
I took the initiative and added some of the posts about some of the free or paid plugins that I am aware off, posts that were already in the Main Forum.
Check it out and try some of these free plugins/software

What are plug-ins?
Outside developers are able to create their own additions to Open Dental. These "additions" are coded as plug-in dll's and then hooked into Open Dental via the Program Links framework. Because plug-ins are an extension of the Program Links framework a button can be placed at the top of any module in order to launch them (if they require launching). Plug-in developers will create these dll's and then they can publish them, sell them, or keep them private.

Developers should still use the "Developers" forum to request plug-in hooks because that is still considered "questions about the source code".
