One Database or Two...that is the question

So I am opening a satellite office soon and am torn with the question if I should run two separate databases or just one. Since there is just one provider the advantages of one database is we only need one schedule to maintain and if patients travel from one office to the other, the data will be easy accessible (vs RDP to the satellite which is daunting for my staff). The concern I have with the single database is if I sell the satellite at some point, how difficult (and costly) will it be to separate out the patients from the second office (clinic)?

We get "database split" requests more than you'd think. We do it for $300 bucks. If more than one database is involved the price goes up. See the "Splitting Databases" section on

If you start using the clinics feature from the start, much of your information will already be split nicely and you'll have an idea of what to expect for the official split.

Thanks Jason. That convinces me to start with one database and use the clinic feature. Did I mention today how AWESOME Open Dental is? What a well thought out feature and service that is.
