Backup in 5.5.9

Post by B.Thomas » Tue Feb 05, 2008 1:53 am

You know how you say to always check your backups at home to make sure they are working correctly. Well I keep getting an error when trying to restore form version 5.5.9 Is anyone else having this problem or is it just my build

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

From the error message, it looks like you were clicking on the logoff menu item to create the message. So I'm assuming you already successfully restored the backup and that this error message happened later? Can you please give more information about the sequence of events?

After I complete the restore process and then try to restart the program I get the following errors
"Incorrect information in file opendental\computerpref.frm" then
"Incorrect information in file opendental\provider.frm" then
"Incorrect information in file opendental\patient.frm" then
"Incorrect information in file opendental\computerpref.frm"

then it crashes and gives me the JIT debugging message. I spent some time trying to debug it last night but wanted to hear if anyone else was having the same problem before I got too far into it. I don't have any errors in my database and no problems other than the backups not working.

So the restoration didn't work. There are three possibilities:
1. the frm files are missing from your backup drive.
2. the frm files on your computer are write protected
3. the frm files on your backup drive are the wrong ones.

I suspect 2. To prove this, do a manual restore following the directions at the bottom of http://www.open-dent.com/manual/backups.html . Let me know how it goes.

And, yes, you do need to do whatever it takes to restore this or you have a high risk of a very costly data loss some day.
