Beta or Stable version
Beta or Stable version
What are the pros and cons to updating to a beta as opposed to the stable version?
Re: Beta or Stable version
Pros:
- you get to test out and use the latest features in your office and then post on this board if you find any problems.
Cons:
-there may be a few bugs or a few things that don't work quite as expected, but overall you should have no problems. Jordan is very quick about making any critical fixes very fast (although there are very few of those ever) and the minor issues corrected as quickly as possible as well.
----examples of bugs that usually occur in beta versions:
1)because of adding a feature to be able to hide the amalgam "quick buttons" for offices that don't use amalgam, they inadvertently stopped working http://70.90.133.65/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1185
2)with the new drawing feature, it looks like drawings are appearing on more charts than just the one intended

I upgrade to beta in our office the same day it comes out and we have never had a major problem except things like that listed above. With most new features though, they work great out of the box in the beta. If you want to be very safe and make sure everything works just right, then wait for stable. Otherwise give the beta's a try and you can help make them better faster!

Re: Beta or Stable version
I use only stable releases at the office, but the version I keep at home is always Beta. The reason for this is that I have more time at home to play with the Beta version. When I find a bug I have time to find out when and how it happens and then I can send an e-mail to Jordan with specific information on the bug. I don't have the time to do that at the office.
