Kiosk Tablet/Laptop

Post by kicksave » Wed Apr 12, 2017 4:50 pm

Have small waiting room and unable to set up a dedicated desktop to have patients fill out and sign forms electronically.
Any suggestions for a lightweight tablet or tablet/laptop combo to use as a kiosk that is portable and lightweight enough for patients to sit and use on their lap rather than at a desk?
Seems like an external mouse and keyboard are a necessity which may be difficult for them to do sitting in waiting room?
What are others using?

We tried different tablets and it never really seemed to work well. You really need a mouse and keyboard for open dental forms. So we decided to bite the bullet and ended up getting yapi instead and using ipads. Not perfect but it works and we primarily use it for the forms in office but as an added bonus they also offer online forms.

If the sheets that you are having your patients fill out in the kiosk are of sheet types Medical History or Patient Form, I highly suggest using our Web Forms (which are both desktop and tablet friendly).

Jason,
Any recommendation for brand of tablet or tablet/laptop combo that would work best to display the consent forms and med hx for patients to fill out and sign?

Since our Web Forms and other web apps are web-based (can be accessed via a web browser) the sky is the limit on what device you choose to use.
If you want to use a tablet for our Kiosk system, you "need" to use a Windows Table PC (e.g. Window 8 Surface Pro):

Jason,
Would you have an extra keyboard attached to the Surface Pro for the kiosk function or would you just get a notebook, like a LeNovo Yoga? thanks!

I'd take a look at my most common demographic and base it off of that. Younger generations tend to prefer the onscreen functionality that the older generations tend to get easily frustrated at.

If you followed the instructions and installed the script provided by OD on their KIOSK trouble shooting page http://www.opendental.com/manual/kioskt ... oting.html
and If your touch keyboard on your surface pro is not popping up in the kiosk mode, the first thing to do is to go to : C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\TabTip.exe
click on Tabtip.exe, and you should have your tablet keyboard available now. If not, then you have a windows problem or device manager problem, it is not OD script problem.

I got the Surface pro 4. When used as a laptop, using many different types of usb keyboards and mouse could be causing the problem to the touch keyboard in windows.

I went to the Microsoft store, and they did a fresh Windows 10 installation for me and that fixed it. When I did the Windows recovery, it did not help..
According to them, the new windows 10 release has better updates for everything including the pop up tablet keyboard option in window.

I followed the instructions on OD website for the Kiosk troubleshooting http://www.opendental.com/manual/kioskt ... oting.html , and it is working now.
The problem is not the script, but the keyboard options in windows .
I do not run it in Tablet MODE

I would like to bump this topic to get an update on what device people recommend purchasing for an OpenDental kiosk.

Is the Surface Pro still the top choice?

Surface pro is a good choice for kiosk.

Open Denal offer e-clippboard that allows you to use any device that has internet on it, cellphone, tablet, ipad, etc..
you can signup for e-clipboard on its own, or have it part of the e-services bundle
