Auto notes
I am just recently converting to paperless, and the autonotes confuse the heck out of me! I have read every thread on here and I'm still waiting for a place for everyone to share their auto notes! why hasnt this happened yet. everyone says they just love it, and its so easy, I totally disagree!!! I have to do everything from scractch and the manual is very vauge on what i should be putting where. Can some one upload some screen shots of what thier progress & autonotes look like so that i Know im doing it correctly. It seems most people in here have had some version of autonotes in another program before converting to opendental, should i be piggybacking another program that does clinical notes into open dental??? ARRRGGGGGG!!!!
Re: Auto notes
There are two methods for creating notes for procedures in Open Dental. The first is the Default Note method and the second is the Autonote Method. The Default Note method is simplest to set up. You just go each procedure in List/Procedure Codes menu. You double click on a procedure and enter a default note in the text box. This text will show up every time you set complete that procedure. For example, go to List/Procedure Codes in the main menu and double click Composite one surface posterior. A window will come up with a text box for the default note. Enter whatever you normally write or something like "Anest. mepiv 3% / Lido 2% w epi 1:100k carp. Tooth prepped and conditioned with etching gel and SE/LC bonding agent. Restored with Z250 shade A2 A3." When you set complete any one surf posterior composite this note will appear. You can then edit it and select the anesthetic, the shade, etc. If you prefer the autonotes, they are more difficult to set up and you will need an example from someone that uses it so you can then set up your own autonotes.

Re: Auto notes
Right. We recommend that new users avoid autonotes entirely. Autonotes are for people who enjoy that sort of thing.

Re: Auto notes
In the example below, the Recall exam and the Oral Cancer exam notes are default notes that are embedded in the procedures and show everytime that procedure is set complete.
The Prophy note was created using Auto Note and selecting different options presented in the note.
