Trick for Treatment Planning

I use this trick when treatment planning and have adapted it to Open Dental (finally). In a complex case, I find it helpful for both myself and the patient if the prognosis for each tooth is graded. My system goes like this:
-Red – Hopeless
-Orange – Questionable
-Yellow – Fair
-Green – Good
Using the Watch “Paint Type” symbol, I have created four “no fee” procedure codes: ZWATCH1-4 that correspond to the four prognoses. Then, I use color override to change the color of the “W” icon which appears over the tooth. On the single click Procedure Buttons, I have created a category for the four prognoses and added a 20x20 color blotch for each one. Then, it’s easy to select a tooth and select the prognosis.
I then print out the chart (having saved it to images) and this provides the patient with an easy graphical image of where things stand. Have Fun.
Best,
Rick
