Is anyone using a different electronic attachment vendor besides NEA?
I'm asking as they seem to have a monopoly on this market as I cannot find another vendor. The clearinghouses all use NEA and even OpenDental recommends using them in addition to a clearinghouse for electronic claims.

Which brings me to the second question--Why don't we have a bridge to NEA from OpenDental? It appears high on the requests list and even has a substantial contribution added for incentive?

There are only two for dental, and NEA definitely dominates the market. ClaimConnect have their own system they rolled out last year, however I'd talk to them about it, as they're pretty frank about the advantages and disadvantages.

I use Tesia for e-claims and attachment. No issues.

Did Renaissance buy out Tesia and now it is under Renaissance control?

Yes. Tesia became a subsuduary of Renaissance Electronic Services back in 2012.

Regarding Tesia, I would like to say that we have been informed that Renaissance will be phasing out Tesia. They will be transitioning Tesia's users to a custom Renaissance format that does not have data validation within Open Dental.

This is interesting with renesaince. We use them and did not know they use a custom format? I emailed them and they replied back

As required by HIPAA we do use the industry standard X12 format when we submit claims electronically. The insurance companies would not accept claims electronically from us in any other format. What you have read on Dentaltown is definitely misinformation and I am sorry for the confusion.

Also, I would be happy to look into the errors you are seeing but we have not made any changes that would impact more errors.

But you are saying renesaince uses a custom fromat that doesnt interact correct with open dental?

Huh that's interesting. For the last 10 years, our bridge to Renaissance has required a custom non-X12 format. Perhaps in the last couple of years they began accepting X12 claims electronically, and we have not been aware of this. We'll look into this more and post back on this forum.

We have contacted Renaissance and verified that we do have to send our claims from Open Dental to Renaissance in a custom format. What Renaissance is saying is that when they send claims to the insurance companies, they use the X12 format. However, when we send our claims to Renaissance, we have to use their custom format. When you setup the Renaissance clearinghouse in Open Dental, you have to use the Renaissance format. If you were able to use successfully use an X837 format, that would be news to us. This custom format has been implemented by us at Open Dental; its biggest disadvantage is that it does not have the robust error checking that we do for the X837 formats. You can still successfully send claims through Open Dental to Renaissance, but the user experience may not be as good.
