Is there a way to send post op instructions via email to a patient after treatment that would be "triggered" based on procedure code?

e.g. Post Op instructions for extractions when procedure code 7210 is entered....maybe even a .PDF file?

There is the Automation Feature that can trigger an action within Open Dental, such as Printing a Patient Letter or Exam Sheet.
The Automation can be set up to trigger whenever a certain code is set complete, say D7210.
If you create a custom Patient Letter (such as post operative instructions) within Open Dental sheets, you can create the rule to have that sheet populate and the option to email (or print) on the spot. Be mindful though, email may not be the appropriate form of communication for sensitive information.
Additionally, when the sheet populates and you send it, it will be recorded in the patient's chart.

Can I attach a .PDF or imbed a web address with the appropriate instructions?

At this time, the Automation feature is limited to Sheets and cannot support pdf.
The actions available when setting a procedure complete are:
-Print Patient Letter (or email)
-Create CommLog
-Print Referral Letter (or email)
-Show Exam Sheet
-Pop Up
There is no way to email a link on it's own, however it could be in the attached sheet.
