Delete lab Slips - Potential Bug

I noted that I had a lot of unattached lab cases (they should have been attached to the insert appointments) and so I started deleting them. It appears that they are also deleted form the chart. They also seem to have been removed from the audit log.

Could you check this out?

Thanks.

PS - I have mentioned it before, but there should be a way to show a deleted procedure in the chart - IOW, if I were to accidentally delete a procedure, it would show in the audit log, but I could not restore its visibility unless I kept the audit log view on at all times.

I don't quite understand. NOTHING can be removed from the audit log.

For your second question, it would be a feature request to allow "un"-deleting a procedure.

Jordan - I though that was the case too. (nothing gets deleted form the audit log)

So let me be more detailed in my description. A lab slip was created in the chart module, but it was not attached to any appointment.

Then from the appointment book module, unattached lab slips were found. They were deleted using the delete button on the lab slip pop-up screen. I can find no trace of the slip in the audit log. This happened with several accounts until I realized what was happening.

best,

Rick

I don't see a permission type for lab cases, so you must be talking about the sheet edit permission. So which Delete button did you hit? The one in the Fill Sheet window?

I deleted from the "Edit Lab Case" Window. The delete button at the lower left. I accessed the window by using the 'Lab Case Button" on the appointment book screen. Then double-clicked on the lab case.

There is no security surrounding that window. What made you think there was?

Well here's the crux of the matter - the lab slip was originally created within the chart module and appeared in the treatment list. But it was deleted from the within Appointment module. It should not have disappeared from the treatment list or audit log. In fact, ther's no evidence that it ever existed.

When you say audit log, do you mean audit mode in the Chart module, or do you mean the global audit trail? In any case, there is simply no security for lab cases. Not to create them, track them, audit them, edit them, or anything else. It's a feature request.

Ok - so that is a game changer. Since I am creating all of my lab slips within Open Dental and signing them, I believed they were part of the legal record. Our state requires that we retain them for five years. So naturally, I assumed that they would become part of the record.

and to answer your question, I checked bot the audit log and the global audit trail and neither reflected the change.

Lab slips are different from lab cases. There is edit/delete security on lab slips because they are part of sheets. I neglected to make that distinction before. Are you using our sheets for your lab slips?

Each lab has its own slip - a copy of the Open Dental Sample Sheet.

And yes - the specific lab slip sheet has disappeared from the record (ie. Mrs. Jones' crown #19)

And you were able to delete in spite of having sheet security turned on?

DISREGARD THIS POST - problem is not resolved

I think you just found the problem - the office is on 7.8.8. I believe the sheet security was implemented after that. SO - sorry to take up your time, but I am very glad that the bug was fixed.

We must be very dedicated to be spending our Sundays obsessing over lab slips.

best,

Rick

I just updated to 7.9.9 and the problem persists. I will try to play with it during the day and see if I can provide more info.

Jordan:

I've repeated the test several times now on dummy patients.

From what I can tell, the lab slips (sheets) are not protected from deletion or tracked in the chart audit log. I have been able to delete them with no trace from the appointment module (Lab cases) button.

I've added it to the bug list like this:
It is possible to delete a lab slip by deleting its lab case even if no permission for sheets.

Thanks Jordan.

Now am I blind? where on the security list is the sheets permissions? I see: main toolbar -> sheet edit - is that it?

Yes, that's it. If you didn't have that turned on, then it's not really a bug.

Hmmm --- so if I have the box checked for edit sheets (which I do as an administrator), shouldn't there be an indication that the sheet was deleted in the audit view of the chart? I thought the audit caught every addition and deletion regardless.of security level?

No, the audit does not track everything, just those things we have programmed it to track.

I guess then, it's not a bug...but I think it should be tracked in the audit log.

Sorry to take so much time on this. Appreciate your help.
