I need to order a new laptop and would like to run OD on it. Can someone suggest a particular model, operating system, etc.... that will serve me for some years to come? Thank you for your time.

Get something with a 32 bit windows 7 most consumer laptops have 64 bit whereas business ones have 32 bit. The 4gb ram advantage of 64bit is irrelevant on laptops. Of course servers should be 64 bit hence windows 2008 server being 64 bit only but not laptops.
OD can run on 64 I believe but many programs and hardware cannot.

You might also consider a 64 bit laptop, on which you install a 32 bit version of Windows 7.

That way you have the luxury of moving to 64 bit when the rest of the dental hardware manufacturers catch up.
