PreAuthorization Status Recieved or Denied

Dear Dr. Sparks,

We send a lot of pre-authorizations, and they get status of "S". When we receive the response we mark the pre-auth as "R" received. However, using just "R" does not give us any information if it was an approval or a denial.

Would it be possible (and make sense) to add a one or two statuses, e.g. Received Denied and Received Approved?
Or, if there is a better way to handle tracking of pre-authorizations, I would love to try it out.

TIA,
Igor

Aren't you entering the estimates by procedure? Wouldn't they show zero? http://www.opendental.com/manual/preauth.html

Thank you Dr. Jordan, in fact, for whatever reason, we did not use the "estimates" feature. We will try and see how this works for us. It certainly appears to be a much cleaner approach.

Is there a feature in OD, that would "default" to some sort of known estimate per proc per schedule, so we don't have to enter it every time?

Yours,
Igor

I suspect, there is, and I just have not found it...

We deal with Denti-Cal, and pretty much know how much they will pay.

Can you please point us in the right direction?

Yours,
Igor

Sounds like it's probably a PPO with a fee schedule. That should handle all the estimating for you as long as you put the DentiCal fees into the PPO fee schedule. Or are you still talking about preauths?

Yes, thank you, we are talking about insurance estimates for preauthorizations, so we don't have to enter them every time.

I will take a look at setting up the denti-cal as PPO.
