I'm looking into open dental for my start up. I want to go completely paperless and have my patients sign a signature pad for their informed consent, treatment plans, etc. I hope to have the software import the signature, put it in the right place on the dicument and then let me print a copy for the patient to take home. Is this possible/easy with Open Dental?

Let me tell you what we do:

WE have laminated all of our forms. Then we use eraseable market (thin point) and have them fill out all forms. Then scann into chart.

Then run under water or wet wipe and re use. No paper to use. I learned this from another paperless office. Its works really nice.

JUst my two cents. Also use jusi snapscan scanners. espensive at 800.00 but worth every penny.

This summer, my intern scanned about 2K chars in two months with this fast scanner.

that is a great idea...I think we may have to start using that laminated method.

Notice that most users here subscribe to the "scan and shred" method. So there is paper, but it only exists temporarily.

We scan and shread, but laminating sure sounds like a great idea! It would also cut costs on the paper that they fill out and then we scan and shred. Might even save a tree!

has there been any progress on a pdf viewer for open dental. it would be nice to scroll through multi page documents without having to open adobe reader all the time

Well, there seem to be many more PDF viewers than there were a few years ago, including:
Poppler
xpdf
Sumatra PDF

Sumatra PDF in particular looks like it might have a dotNET plugin with samples. http://sumatrapdf.googlecode.com/svn/tr ... NetSample/ We'll see what happens.

My office is totally paperless!!! X-rays are digital and life is wonderful. We do have the occassional bit of paper that comes through when records are transfer in from an other office. My dentist found a wonderful website called http://www.logiforms.com. Using this website I was able to set up all the different patient information forms. OUr patients fill out all their forms on a secure encrypted page, once it is completed I receive an email letting me know that the form has been submitted and then I am able to downlaod the form in pdf form and inport it into Open Dental. Logiforms was really easy anduser friendly so I was able to set up an 8 page form in just a couple of hours and set up for the population of the pdf file in maybe an additional hour. It is wonderfull. We have the forms on our website so we are able to have new patients fill out all their paperwork and we receive it, in most cases, long before their appointment time. So we are able to get them into Open Dental and have their insurance info confirmed prior to appointment time, rather than finding out at the last moment their insurance has lapsed or the info has changed. It is the easiest way I have ever had to deal with paperwork.

Anyone using this Logitech iO pen in their paperless office? It looks like a really handy device that you can use to record medical histories for example without needing to scan a paper form in.

does logiform allow for signatures and jordan or anyone, have you looked at their product logibridge which seems to directly integrate with sql databases?

I have looked at Logibridge but have not had a chance to try the demo out with Open Dental. I am hoping to get to it in the next couple of days.
As far as signatures on our Logiforms at the end of our Health History, Assignment of Benefits, Financial Responsibility Agreement, HIPAA & Credit Card Authorization forms we have included the following statement:
