New patient report

How do you run a report that tells you how many new patients you had in the month?

There is probably a better way if you know how to write queries, which I am not very good at doing.
I only do comprehensive exams on new patients so I run a procedure report for the month and filter it for only comprehesnive exams 'D0150'
This gets me close but I have to add them up by hand. This also doesn't count new patients who were seen for emergency exams but it gets me close.
I am sure someone with better query skills could write a query that does a better job.
