Shared image folders for families

Post by dpat08 » Fri Jul 04, 2025 12:12 pm

Is there a way to share a folder for families in imaging? We are a pediatric dental office and scan in the ID of the parent on the first appointment. The problem is we have to copy and paste that ID individually into each child’s chart if we want easy access to it. Not sure why we need “easy access” to it, but that’s the current protocol.

I’m not exactly sure why we started it that way, but that’s what we did. Maybe it was so that we did not have to make a new chart in case mom brought in one time, dad brought in the next, grandmother brought them the time after that, etc.

Options…

1. We could just store everybody’s ID cards in the guarantor’s account.
2. We could make a new chart for each person that brings the kid in.
3. We could do it like we’re doing now.

The ability to toggle on a folder to share between the entire members of the family might be helpful in this scenario. It could also be helpful for insurance cards and other identifiers that would be the same for each child.

Thanks!
Dylan

Interesting suggestion. I think what will eventually happen is that AI will very quickly help you locate things that you need, no matter where they are. There's only so much that any sort of file system or database can do. At some point, you need a fast intelligent hunter. This would apply to many many things in Open Dental. Then, the AI will take it a step further and get things better organized as it runs into clutter. It could automatically make copies for you, although it's probably really better to keep one copy and then figure out how to always put it in the same place. So everything I do now, I always ask myself how AI would do it, how AI could improve it, and what we can to do make it easier for AI to do so. This doesn't solve your immediate problem except that I would probably recommend standardizing on a folder in the guarantor for all IDs.
