Shredding Service

Post by Jay »

I am sick of shredders breaking. Does anyone have a good model in mind? Better still does anyone use a shredding service? Any pros or cons and suggested contracts (HIPAA etc.)?

Jay,

We have a Staples SPL-XC240P with 24 sheet capacity. We've had it 2-3 years and still running. It is quiet enough to run during the day. Actual results may vary.

make sure you run a sheet of paper with lubricating oil on it at least once a week and get one that is heavy duty at least $250 range and it should last you many years. If you don't use oil, it will break down.

We do run the lubricant sheets through but more like once a month or so. Regarding models I did look at SPL-XC240P but am leaning towards this one based on ratings:

We have that exact model. Had it for three years. Works great.

We have an Executive Machines EPS-1501X (15 sheet shredder), 10+ yrs old. Got it in Staples on a Black Friday. Never put in lubricating sheets. Still running strong, after shredding tens of thousands of pages of old charts.
Maybe you should check how your staff is using yours. Are they overstuffing it and jamming it?

Quite possible but impossible to establish.
