Windows 7 Starter Edition

Post by B.Thomas » Sat May 26, 2012 12:20 pm

I noticed some inexpensive tablets for sale with Windows 7 Starter Edition as the OS. Does Open Dental install and work with this OS? I'm thinking about using this for patient forms at a kiosk.

I don't know. I would be concerned that networking feature would be missing from a starter edition.

Would Open Dental install on and run on Windows Embedded Compact 7? The 7 makes it sound like it is related to Windows 7 but I think it is a different platform.

Unless there has been some great change in a recent version of windows CE then OD would not run in it. I've had windows CE on two devices I've owned. First was a Compaq Ipaq and second was a GPS. In both cases I've put in some hacks and found ways to make them do things they were not intended to do. The main thing with CE and why OD will not run on it is .net support, aside from the fact that almost any executable designed for windows will not run in CE. It's theoretically possible that a program could be cross-compiled but it is rarely done. The program would have to be very simple and not have a large dependency chain.
