Anyone using mail merge with OpenOffice?

Post by wjstarck »

I'm having trouble getting mail merge to work on OpenOffice for Windows.

I select the starting document, choose the document type (letter) and then click on 'Select Address List' in Insert Address Block and select my exported query file then click 'OK'

This puts me back in the Inset Address Block window, but all the options are grayed out, as are the 'Next' and 'Finish' buttons.

???

i asked a similar question a month ago. Currently there is no support for open office, but the Microsoft Office support is flawless.

I did get it to work, but it's counterintuitive, and is just too much to hassle with right now.

You're right --- Microsoft mail merge works soooo nicely. OTOH, I did like that OpenOffice has the ability to tailor the merged letter by sex (I exported the gender field from OD), which AFAIK Word doesn't do...

Oh well, maybe when I get some free time (yeah right) I'll mess with it again....

has anyone tried the OO.o version found @ http://go-oo.org/ ?

"The go-oo version of OpenOffice.org is designed to give a foretaste of new features in development and includes functionality not yet accepted up-stream."

maybe the mail merge works better with this version.
