Web Service

Post by LAMBR » Thu Dec 10, 2009 10:59 pm

I was able to create and compile the OD 6.8 version fine from the SVN.

I was trying to use the Web Services feature but I was not able to find the ServiceMain.asmx.

Am I missing anything here? I tried to find it on SVN, I installed the trial version and I could not get the ServiceMain.asmx. Is there any way to create it from the OpenDentBusiness?

Thank you in advance,

LAMBR

It's only available to paying customers and it comes already compiled. We haven't quite figured out the nuances of how we're going to license it. It may become the foundation of a "web version" that runs in a browser, and in that case, we would probably host it.

Jordan,

To clarify, does that mean that it is not going to be part of the open source code? Is the "web version" going to be something that the resellers are going to be able to have access to?

After some internal discussions today, we've decided to continue with the open source model even as we develop the web service and the later web version. The source code for the web service will be added to our subversion server as soon as we are able. It's a big big market out there with plenty of room for all Open Dental resellers. Time to go frustrate those Dentrix salespeople.

Great move, Open Dental is really starting to stir up the market and I believe this is just the beginning. The market is large enough and we will all have plenty of ways of making money after we capture 100% of it.

This is great addition! Can't wait to try it out. About three years ago we developed our own web services solution for our MyPatientScheduler (http://mypatientscheduler.com/j/opendental) integration that uses SOAP and a PHP based object relational model. Web services are definitely they way go for secure reliable real-time transactions.
