Does OD runs on linux out of the box.

Post by benjap » Sat Sep 12, 2009 1:48 am

Can anyone tell me if OpenDental runs on Linux out of the box. I tried to install it on a CentOS 5.3 box and got all kinds of errors dealing with MONO. It is not well documented anywhere on this site how to do this nor is it in the manual. Does anybody provide this service for a fee.

The 3D tooth chart never did work on Linux due to limitations of Mono. The Mono team took many more years than they promised to build the framework. We basically got tired of waiting for them and moved on to greener pastures. Haven't even tried to run it on Linux in a long time. In fact, OpenGL is so quircky that we're seriously considering rewriting the 3D tooth chart in DirectX. This would get rid of the "hairy" teeth and make them look stunning.

Have you considered using a table of static images for the tooth chart? Rotations, etc. would require different images but I don't think you would need too many.

It would only work if we didn't allow rotations. I suppose that's not a bad idea.
