Added field to Definition File

Post by kapricorn » Tue Feb 03, 2009 11:04 am

Dr. Sparks,

Do you have any problem having an ItemModifier field added to the Definition file? We need it to modify the adjustment code condition for collection vs production, for reporting purposes only. This field could then be used for other definitions if needed.

We have modified the definition edit window for adjustments and have modified the adjustment report. we are still testing the production report but it should be ready shortly.

This code change allows a user to mark an adjustment as a collection adjustment and therefore it does not effect the doctors production on the reports. We are running into this more and more, probably because SoftDent was able to do this and we had a lot of SoftDent conversions.

Example: A practice allows their employees to get dental work for free.
The doctor who does the work gets 50% of the production for his service.
The proceedures are entered totalling $100.00
The front desk posts an adjustment fo 50.00 (Employee Provider Discount) - this takes production away from the provider
The front desk then posts an adjustment for 50.00 (Employee Writeoff) this will zero the balance but have no effect on the providers production.

OK. But since I will need to go over the changes with a fine-tooth comb, please keep the changes very concise.

Next time, please discuss the changes before you code them.

This was one we discussed a long while back but was put on the back burner after a few unsuccessful attempts. We actually tried a few different ways to get the results we were looking for. We will definately discuss anything before changing in the future, we would not want to waste our time either if someone else was already working on the same project or if it was just deemed unacceptable. This was just one of those things where we had to code it to see it, to see if it was even what we wanted to suggest.

There simply isn't room for the columns that you added to those reports. Not without moving to landscape orientation. We already get complaints about numbers getting cut off. You would not believe how big the numbers can get in very large clinics. Now I just have to decide if it's acceptable to switch to landscape. I'm leaning towards saying that it is. But we will certainly get some complaints from people who preferred it in letter orientation.

I do very much appreciate the fact that you change nothing but the reports with your solution.

I was looking at a SoftDent daysheet and they actually have 1 additional column compared to us. I beleive the trick to what they are doing is a few things. They do not have the date on each line for starters. Maybe we can change the format of the date, so that it is smaller, if we need to keep it. Also they are using a smaller font (makes a big difference). The big kicker is that they only have 1 figure per line, as we do, but they do not put the 0's in every column. This way the number can get as large as it wants. This actually allows for more room for the Patient name and code description also. This will only work for the today / yesterday / and more options report. I beleive the monthly and annual reports can be tweeked to allow for enough room if we just use a smaller font.
Another possibility may be to give the option of printing it landscape or not for offices that have larger numbers. That seems like there would be a lot of duplication however.

Any further thoughts on modifying/adding this report? Will landscape work??

Jordan,

Can you try to make some time to look at this and get it added to the source. We have a large client that is waiting on doing the rest of his practices until this feature is added.

Much appreciated

The reason for the delay is because it's not a small change. Smaller is much better. I'm especially dreading having to rework all the report column sizes. I'm on my way out the door for vacation. I feel bad that you've waited so long. I'll try to get it into version 6.7. I'm putting a reminder on that page.

Let me know when you get back and things settle down.

We actually have the reports all formatted and all calculations tested and working now in the large muti clinic practice that I spoke of. We were able to come up with a way of doing it without adding a field and I beleive you would like it.

Also the code has changed drastically since it was last sent to you. We did change the font in two places so all list reports now have an 8 instead of 9 size. This makes the reports look alot more professional and you get a lot more information on them without making them too small to read.

OK, I'm back. Yes, we can globally change the font to 8. Just let me know where.

Let me know what your new strategy is. Not adding a column would help a lot.
