rsync openDentImages from linux to network windows machine

Post by shadlewis » Tue Nov 10, 2015 7:26 am

Can rsync be used to sync my XDRDATA and openDentImages folder on my server to a networked windows machine?

Or, how would you recommend doing this?

I'm not sure how XDRDATA is formatted or used so I can't give good suggestions for it, but as for OpenDentImages, why not just use a SAMBA share which the Windows boxes can access directly? No syncing involved.
The best thing about a boolean is even if you are wrong, you are only off by a bit.

Just a tip - ive been using Syncthing https://syncthing.net/ for a good 2 months and enjoy the Open Source app - its available in Linux / Windows & Mac version and is secure - install it on both computers and share the Device ID - link up the folder you want to share and let them sync - it watches for changes in the ODImages folder every 60 seconds (like an rsync process) - and copies the news / updated files over. Its an alternative to BitSync - but i truly love it.

Since my OD Images folder is over +25GB - fearing Data cap - I first made identical copies on each computer then installed Syncthing and it scanned each folder saw that an identical copy existed and skipped - within 20 minutes I was all sync'd up.
