OpenDental on Synology DS412+ MySQL 5.5

Post by pobrejuanito » Wed Apr 16, 2014 1:02 pm

Hi,

I am tasked to setup up a new office. I am planning to use Synology NAS DS412+ to host A-Z folders, and to host the MySQL database. Synology package manager allows you to download MySQL version 5.5.33 onto the NAS. This NAS box is powered by Intel Atom Dual Core 2.13GHz with 1GB RAM.

Are there anything that I should be aware of?

Thanks

I tried hosting the MySQL on an celeron powered NAS, it was twice a slow as just hosting it on a normal, even older athlon or phenom computer. Usually those things have very little memory compared to a normal server or even a normal desktop (like you said 1gb compared to 4gb on most desktops and 8gb-16gb on servers), that really slows down queries. That is the only thing I would worry about. Your shares will be fine hosted on the NAS.
