A D A codes for 2013

Post by drtech » Sun Jan 06, 2013 6:39 pm

I just went to update the codes for the 2013 changes to the A D A codes for work tomorrow and it does not work on the compiled version? I have to edit them manually or how can we run the tool?

For legal reasons we cannot allow the D codes tool to be run for trial and compile users. Jordan might have something to say about the subject but from my understanding we can't assist users with the codes unless they have filled out an Open Dental CDT Compliance document and are on a support contract with us. My guess is you'll end up having to manually add the new codes.

I am so tired of us dentists having to pay the A D A to use our own communication codes (and you guys having to mess with licensing, etc)...I remember now all the deal a few years ago....I put in all the pertinent ones myself...

I have added the Fluoride code manually, but is there a way to get it to change the code from D1203/4 to D1208 for all of the treament already planned (and appts scheduled)? We pre-appt all hygiene patients, so I have over 6 months of patients scheduled already with the D1203 code.....

Update to v12.4.32 or greater and it will happen automatically. http://opendental.com/manual/codes2013.html

You mentioned earlier that the update tool would only work if you were a support subscriber. I am using a compiled version, so I assume upgrading would not help me?

If not, is there any other way to change the planned treatment (besides manually changing each one)?

Regardless of on support or not, our update script will look through the database and upgrade codes exactly matching 'D1203' / 'D1204' to 'D1208'. We just can't GIVE you the codes without you being on support because they cost money.

That is my point...why are you being "charged" to use descriptive codes?

CDT codes are copyrighted by the A D A . The OD team can't distribute them freely because each distribution (aka license) costs OD team money. So if you compile, you get to pay for your own license by way of purchasing the CDT code book every year. For what it's worth, Dentaltown has an ad by 3M Lava giving away the CDT 2013 code book.
