BYOD leads to data breaches in the workplace

Post by packets » Thu Dec 20, 2012 5:29 am

FWIW...
While technology undoubtedly has made accessing medical information much easier and faster, it also has also provided an increased potential for medical data breaches especially as health personnel begin to use unsecure mobile devices for personal and work use. With an increase in health care employees using their own tablets and smartphones in the workplace, many healthcare companies are considering adopting a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy. However, many companies have failed to implement mobile data breach protection, breaking the HIPAA Security Rule which requires healthcare companies to perform a risk analysis of the processes by which they protect the confidentiality of electronic patient health information maintained by their organization.

One word: BlackBerry 10. Launching January 30, 2013. 140-2 Security Certified. BES 10 BYOD management. Security perimeter with BlackBerry Balance - separate on device threads, one for personal, the other for work. It's the only device on the market that's actually HIPAA compliant.

Android = Malware haven, security nightmare.
iOs = jailbroken after every OS release. For kids mostly.

I think this would be great for dentists. Taking patient smile photos, etc.

There's a lot more. Dentists I have talked to are quite excited to get their hands on this device.
I am getting this for sure.
