Bridge to Open A-Z Folders

Post by scottmanis » Mon Jun 25, 2012 11:09 am

Hello,

We just did our final conversion from Practiceworks to Open Dental on Friday and I am now noticing that our nested files in our old practiceworks A-Z folders cannot be accessed through the Imaging module (though the top level files are showing up). I am wondering if somone could tell me whether or not it is feasible to create a bridge button that would in the best case scenario open up the patients specific A-Z file or at the least open up the directory as a whole in windows explorer.

Thanks in advance!

Scott

An update of what I've tried so far.

I have gotten the bridge to open windows explorer, but it takes about a minute and then the command line commands for windows explorer dont execute.

Am I only supposed to be using command line commands for OpenDental Itself, and not Explorer?

Sorry If Im confusing things...

I'm guessing it takes that long because Windows is attempting to locate files/folder that don't exist. In other words, the path you typed is invalid, probably because you tacked on some "command line" options. I wasn't aware that windows explorer had any command line options. Yes, I think you should be able to use our bridge (Program Links) feature to open a windows folder. How are the folders named?

The files are named according to LNameFNamePatientID in the A-Z Folders within OpenDentImages.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/152457 is where the command line options for windows explorer can be found.

Is there a simpler/alternative way to go about accessing a particular patients file than what I am attempting?

Thank you for your continued help.

As another update: I have succeeded in getting the command line options to work, but when it comes to accessing the specific A-Z folder for the particular patient I am at somewhat of a loss. What would it take to get just the first letter of the patient's last name parsed for a command line argument?

It would be easy for us. If you want, we can put it in 12.3, which I think we'll release tomorrow.

OK, it was added. Looks like it will be in 12.3.1 tomorrow morning. But early beta versions can be a bit touchy. Maybe give it a few days before using it in a live environment.
