Quickbooks Integration - Different Computers

Post by joshuab » Mon Apr 23, 2012 11:07 am

Does QB+OD have to be installed on the same computer AND used for entry? Eg. could we then use ANY OD workstation to make entries after setup?

Just updated to 12.1.16.0 and was excited about QB integration. However, it appears QB+OD workstation have to be used for entry. I don't mind setting it up on the same computer that has QB (mine), but our office manager enters the deposits in OD and I don't her to use my computer, or access to QB (obvious reasons). If all setup properly, could input for OD deposits be from any workstation?

I originally saw the UNC/network path in the screenshot of the setup docs: http://www.opendental.com/manual/quickbooks.html. I assumed this would work over the LAN, but now I'm worried.

Thanks.

joshuab,

Take a look at this link from the Main Forum. It may shed some light on your concerns. I expressed some concerns to Jordan as well that you will read in the link below. Jordan stated they will make some changes but unsure when that is planned to occur.

It was already added to 12.3.

Using:
OD version 12.2.9
QB version 2009

Followed directions to set up integration.
When I create a deposit I get the following message:
The version of qbXML that was requested is not supported or is unknown.
A deposit has not been created in Quickbooks, continue anyway?
Not sure if this is the solution but a Google search came up with the following (don't really understand it):
When you send your qbXML request, part of it looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<?qbxml version="7.0"?>
<QBXML>
<QBXMLMsgsRq onError="stopOnError">
...
</QBXMLMsgsRq>
</QBXML>

If you get this error message, it means that you sent a
<?qbxml version="x.x"?>
that your version of QuickBooks doesn't support. Try sending a lower version. You should also see the list of qbXML versions that each version of QuickBooks supports.
How do I fix this? How do I change the qbXML version?

We dictate what qbXML versions are being used. Basically each "communication" OD has with QuickBooks will have a qbXML version associated with it. The higher the qbXML version, the more bridging functionality available to the bridge. If you were able to add accounts to your lists of accounts then I believe that means QuickBooks 2009 recognized the qbXML v8.0 command but when you tried to make a deposit it didn't recognize the qbXML v9.0 command. You might just need to update your version of QuickBooks. The bridge was written using QuickBooks 2012. We'll look into this a little further and make sure this is the correct solution.

After some more research I found that the version of QuickBooks correlates with the version of qbXML it can handle. It's simply the last two digits in the year of the QuickBooks edition minus one. In your case, 2009 can handle qbXML v8.0 and lower. In theory, you only need to upgrade to v2010. I would recommend going to 2012 because you'll run into this issue again if we ever add a new feature that utilizes qbXML v11.0 and that's the edition we purchased so I'd put money on Open Dental being compatible with it for quite some time.

Well, I am going to have to upgrade to 2012 by the end of May anyway, or I'll lose my payroll service functionality. So I guess that will take care of it.
