server upgrade

Post by beriberi » Sat Sep 29, 2007 10:22 am

We're currently running OpenDental v 4.8x.

We're planning a major hardware upgrade on the server that requires
complete reinstall of Windows Small Business Server 2003,
and a complete reinstall of OpenDental on the server and the clients.

Plan is to first upgrade OpenDental to the new version on the server, then backup all data, and then proceed with complete reinstall on server and clients, and then restore data.

I need to make sure we backup exactly the right folders and files for this to work. Would appreciate any help. Thank you.

See http://www.open-dent.com/manual/backups.html, especially at the bottom of the page. DO NOT TRUST YOUR BACKUP unles you have already restored it to another computer. I personally know of an office that lost 7 months of data by not verifying their backup before rebuilding their server.
