Sms text messages

Post by sandi » Wed Jun 23, 2010 2:29 am

From doing a search of past posts, im leaning towards entering cell numbers in the email address seperated by semicolons from the email address in order to sms text message patients reminders. From doing a little research OZEKI ng sms server seems to offer forwarding sms texts to specifed email addresses if the phone number is entered in the subject line or indeed cellnumber@sms.domain.com for example , therefore
I believe i need to set up an email server like MS exchange server to accomplish this. If anyone else wants to try this then trials are available for download from respective websites. Any help appreciated, and i shall report back when i have it set up (and working hopefully)

Interesting idea.

They already have a C# API that communicates directly with their SMS server, so that functionality could be added directly into OD or offered as a plugin by an outside developer.

We are using DemandForceD3.com to handle both email and text messaging. In addition to the permission based nature of the service, it also collects reviews and surveys to upload to google, improving the score when you search for 'cityname' dentist. Service automatically detects cell phone numbers and offers search service for email addresses.

First post, be gentle...

Skype can be used through Asterisk if you have an Asterisk IP-PBX... Imagine OpenDental natively sending a SMS to your Asterisk server which then uses Skype to send it anywhere in the world for 11 cents a message.

Maybe unless previously requested by a patient, but wouldn’t SMS text messaging (similar to regular email) be a Non-compliant communications practice, and might cellular phone numbers, along with email addresses, acquired by Covered Entities, be considered PHI? Hmm...Interesting, you know, each could uniquely identify a patient. OMG! How far does the rabbit hole go? :?:

Skype terminated their Asterisk integration after they were bought out by Microsoft.
