Marking Appointment Complete

Post by igork » Tue May 25, 2010 2:36 pm

Dear Dr. Sparks,

We have upgraded to the 7.0.33.0 last night and are seeing a different behavior than before.

When in Appointment module, we can't any longer mark appointments as 'Complete' by using check box button on the right, when it is a future appointment. We get a message: 'Not allowed to set complete future appointments.'.

We can still open the appointment and change the status to 'Complete' though.

We actually use this feature a lot. Is this a defect or a 'new functionality'?

We would much prefer this working as it was before.

Many thanks in advance,
Igor

It was supposed to be an improvement. Who would have guessed that someone would try to set appointments complete a day ahead of time. Doing so accidentally was considered a bug. We'll figure something out. I put it down as a bug for now.

I think the new way makes more sense.

I don't understand why you would want to set an appointment complete for a future date. If a patient comes in for an earlier appointment than their scheduled date wouldn't it be easier to move them in the scheduler to the correct date and time? If you move them to the correct time then you also have an accurate record when they came on the scheduler for historical purposes. Or am I missing some other reason why future appointments are being set complete?

Great job Jordan,

Glad it's here. In my opinion, not being able to set future appointments complete is a bug fix, not a bug.

In this case, the office is a mobile clinic, so they mark appts complete to get the default notes in place. As long as they have a system in place, it's not necessarily a bad idea.

Thank you Dr. Sparks and All,

Dr. Sparks is correct, we are probably not the most typical office, but a "group" of "mobile" clinics, but we still need notes, reports, schedules etc. :-).

If there is an interest, I would be happy to describe our workflow and gratefully accept your comments and suggestions, as I am sure there are errors or inefficiencies we have.

Else, I completely understand that you all are busy and respect your time.

Yours,
Igor

We have a group of mobile offices as well and are the ones that asked for this change. When patients had multiple future appointments scheduled our providers were accidentally setting the wrong appointment complete in the chart module from time to time. I couldn't think of any reason you'd want to do so intentionally, so I'm curious to know more about your workflow.
