Why Linux is cool

Post by wjstarck » Tue Sep 18, 2007 4:06 pm

Linux is so cool :P

Here I have OD and VixWin Pro on different faces of a 3D cube in Ubuntu. I can freely rotate the cube to select a face of the cube as the active desktop, at which time it will maximize to fill the screen.

I can even have a video playing in the background *as* the desktop wallpaper (not in a window). Wow!

It's even cooler when you see it in action--- I have made a video of my desktop - if I can ever figure out how to get it in the right format I'll upload it to YouTube or Google so you can have a look...

cool! i have been working on getting a few linux workstations up and running lately...the 3D effects are really cool (esp with transparency enabled) and actually, they are useful!

Agreed.

Here's another screenshot with 3D windows, transparency, and the backsides of the windows painted.

The 3D desktop should be an interesting paradigm shift for PMS software as it represents a revolutionary new way of organizing information and presenting it to patients.

Stay tuned....

This is awesome. I'm a big linux believer, but what about other windows applications that are running on the workstations?

This would only be for Linux clients - for now

I'm sure something similar will be coming to Windows before too long.

Cheers.
