Installation Problem NAS & XP

Post by ibrahimuwc » Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:48 pm

I am running into problems when installing the mysql server on a XP pro. I have dedicated an XP machine to act as the mysql server, however, I am point the database files to a NAS via mapped network drive.

I cannot get the mysql service to start in XP, I keep getting the 1067 error. However, if I edit the datapath in my.ini file, the service starts fine under XP services.

So my question is: how do I configure OpenDental to run mysql as a service on the XP machine, while pointing all the database files to a mapped network drive?

In the "Choose a database" window, I keep getting "unable to find opendental database" error.

Please help.

Thanks,

Well, you would indeed need to edit the my.ini file, then restart the service. Actually, I think you need to reinstall the service, not just restart it. You can either do this using the mysql manual to look up the command to run from the Windows prompt, or you can do it using our installer. http://www.open-dent.com/trial.html Only check the box along the left for my.ini. Make sure all the paths are correct, and then click Install. This will uninstall the service, revise the my.ini file, reinstall and start the service. So that's probably the easiest approach.
