Problems converting from 5.8 to any of the later versions...

Post by opensource » Sun Feb 22, 2009 5:09 pm

Hello,

I have been trying to upgrade to the latest and greatest version (6.4.x) but none of the versions since 5.8 seem to be working for me. The database converts fine..etc but when I run the program opendental.exe in debug or release mode..get the following error...

--------
ee the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I am not sure but my guess is that it might have something to do with my .NET version ?..thoughts / suggestions ?

Cheers,

Did you run the db maint tool?

If that doesn't help... It sounds like you want to try to debug it yourself. If you are a customer on support, it's easier to send us your database and let us deal with it. But if you still want to give it a try, the key is the line:
at OpenDentBusiness.Patients.SubmitAndFill(String command)
You will need to break at that point to see what the command is. Then, you will need to run that command in another tool to see what that row looks like. Looking for a column in the patient table that might be null. Step through the CreateObjects method one object at a time until it is found.

Hello Dr. Jordan,

As always, thank you oh wise one :-)

The DB tool did not fix it but thanks to your tip, I knew exactly what to fix (site ID column in the Patient table), I did have a slight problem with it during the db migration too (something about it was supposed to be 'not null' but the migration process did not like it to be 'not null'). Once I fixed that to be 'not null' again, it works perfectly fine now.

Thanks again

Cheers,
