Multiple Offices, Multiple Image Folders

Post by mimai » Wed Aug 01, 2007 3:35 am

We have two offices A and B. They use the same OD database replicated circularly. However, office A computers point to local image folder IA and office B computers point to local image folder IB for speed purpose. People in office A can see data and images of patients seen in their office and can see data of patients seen in office B but can not see their images.
Can you have OD search for image files in primary folder IA and when it can not find the files there then it look at the alternative folder IB (then IC then ID then ect.) in that order. In another word, can we have the alternative image folder feature works even after initial program start-up.
Thanks

Right. I'm aware of that request. But I was thinking the other day... Your database is replicated within a few seconds, right? So both databases are always identical, right? So why would it be a problem to set a backup program to keep the image folders synchronized? Yes, the first time you get both image folders up to the same level, it will take time. But after that, the backup program can just send one image at a time, and it shouldn't overload the network. Your image folders would then end up probably about an hour behind in the sych, depending on how frequently the backup program scanned the folders. That's workable, right? And, no, adding an image to the image folder will not trigger OD to think that it found a new image. It will already know about that image.

So what we really need is the ability to set the image path on a per-computer basis. But once it's set, that's it. It doesn't need to be dynamic while running. It doesn't need to try to search multiple image folders looking for the image in question. It might be nice, but it's a much higher priority to be able to set the path for each separate computer.
