Upgrade path from 6.4?

Hi,

First of all, let me say this is an amazing effort, congratulations and thanks for keeping it going.

I am helping a dentist upgrade from her current 6.4 OpenDental software to the latest. Can someone help me with these initial questions?

1. Is it recommended to migrate to the 7.2 beta, if not when is the release version expected?
2. How is the database (schema) migrated? Is there any separate program that will upgrade the 6.4 database?
3. The documentation says that installation of trial version is a must even for compiling from source -- just curious to know the reason?

1) 7.2 is now production version. should be able to upgrade right now. MAKE SURE you have a confirmed good backup copy of your database before upgrading just in case for some reason it should fail.
2) the program has an internal migration wish just are specific mySQL commands to change tables/rows, etc
3)The trial version should be installed first because it will install the proper mySQL ini permission files and such to make it work right. Just makes it a lot easier. I compile myself and I always install the trial version even on a workstation and then copy over the newly compiled files over it. Works great every time

Thank you for your answers. It's good to know I don't have to upgrade through the intermediate versions to go to 7.2

Installation of the trial is only required on the server, not on workstations. It is the ONLY way to get the initial database tables.

If I am upgrading in-place from an existing 6.4 server, the database would already be there, so I don't need to install the trial version in that case. Is that correct?
