" prior date of placement" for e-claim?

Post by mma280 » Sun Jun 01, 2008 10:14 pm

How do you mange to fill "prior date of placement "for e-claim like this case?
Patient needs to replace #30 PFM due to porcelain chip off which was done in somewhere else. She did not recall when exactly date. She said may be more than 7 years.
I try to put 7 year + in pror date of placement area.It did not allow me to do.
How can I solve this issue?

You first make a good effort attempt to track down the date by calling previous dentists. Then, if that fails, you make up a date out of thin air. You must do this because insurance companies require a specific date. Also make a note of the date in the progress notes or someplace obvious so that you keep a good record of it.

I don't make up a specific date if the patient or I don't have a record of it....
Instead, I always pick January 1st of the estimated year. Then in the claim note I type "estimated date of prior placement".
I feel like this is more truthful and it doesn't lock me into a signed insurance document with a specific date documented that I know is not accurate.
