Install Bug "FreeDentalConfig.xml"

Post by rsprouse » Fri May 30, 2008 9:13 am

Hi,

Just installed a demo in hopes of eval'ing the software on a Vista machine. When I launch Open Dental I get an unhandled exception saying that "Access to the path "C:\Program Files\Open Dental\FreeDentalConfig.xml" is denied. If I continue past the debug error then all modules (Appt Book, patient, etc) all do not exist. I get an error telling me I am not authorized for the modules. When I check the Open Dental folder I do not see the mentioned .xml file, just OpenDentServerConfig.xml. I copied and renamed the OpenDentServerConfig.xml file accordingly and things appear to work properly now. Do I need to add anything to the .xml file to properly demo the software or is my work around sufficient? Thanks for the input.

Best,
Rory

I have Vista on all the machines with Open Dental. I saw that before. Very likely, it is becuase you didn't install the program as "administrator". Please check the installation page below and redo it. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I RTFM before installing and even followed directions

Things seem to be working well so far.

The first time you run OD on Vista, you have to do it as Admin. From then on, it's not a problem.
