Update taking a long time (getting longer)

Post by Tom Zaccaria » Wed Oct 09, 2019 4:39 am

Seems it is taking longer and longer to update versions of OpenDental. Then I found this:

"Usually Open Dental will automatically backup the database during an update as a preventive measure. Large enterprise organizations that update often and have a comprehensive backup strategy can contact Open Dental technical support to disable this process."

I do backup religiously on a daily basis. Plus, I can backup while we are working. I can't update versions while we are actively working. It shuts things down until the update is completely finished. Anyone out there know how to disable the backup process during updating or do I have to call in?

Thanks,
drtmz

Hi Tom,

This is a call in situation, and reserved for those who have their backup situation well in hand.

Updates are not taking longer than they did before in general, but only because as you suggest, your database is larger. The reason we have you call in is to prevent people from doing this who maybe should not.

I do understand it is the backup that is the problem. I will call in next time we update.
Thanks for the reply
