Win 7 problems

Post by JLM » Tue Sep 25, 2018 10:48 am

I have an old 1Ghz Athlon 32 bit computer driving a pair of SCSI Denoptix scanners. We have been on 17.3.64.0 since March. Lately, the computer has stopped running OD successfully. When I click on a user name at the login dialog, it freezes and uses 100% of CPU. Is this a known issue for OD? Denoptix software still runs and no other problems have occurred.

-(Also, the computer requirements link on the trial version page is 404) Nevermind. It's back up.
-Also, the forum software lets you type away on the 'Post a new topic' page but when you submit, then it tells you that you have timed out and throws away all your edits. Us dentist types get interrupted a lot and get called away from their computer mid edit on a regular basis.

Clicking on a user within Open Dental only sets the focus of the form to the Password text box so that you can instantly start typing in your password. I highly doubt that is taking up all of your CPU so it is probably something else running in the background (e.g. filling up cached items, something that an enabled plugin is doing, etc). You should upgrade to a more recent version of Open Dental IMO (at the very least you can update to v17.3.80 which is the highest of your minor version).

All of our known issues for each version are logged in the following places:
Recent Versions:

Older Versions (where v17.3 can be found):

For what it's worth, I have three identical computers, all with Win7, Denoptix and OpenDental as the only installed software. Athlon 32 bit 1Ghz. The power supply went out on the one I spoke of earlier, so I swapped one of the spares in. It too is unable to run Open Dental v18. It does run on a 64bit win7 VM. Just FYI. I'm probably the only customer trying to run it on a 32 bit Win 7 computer. Now I have to add a second computer in the lab to run OD for the assistants.

We're a 32bit application. We don't even have a 64bit version of the software to even release to customers so there is something else going on. Feel free to call support and we can look into it for you.
