Window XP Pro or VistaBusiness

Post by dand » Wed Feb 20, 2008 9:48 pm

I love my OD and so do my nine "refurbished" dell desktop computers.
I am wanting to get a laptop for home which I will back up my OD on as well as my other things. If one of my computers go down, it will be a quick fix to use my laptop and will allow me to have an off site backup.
I am thinking I will get it with WindowsXP Pro but am wondering if I should get Vista Business instead(I assume VistaBusiness is the equivalent of the XPPro)
I would love to get an apple lap top instead....but don't know if OD, XDR, Quicken, Quick Pay, etc will work on it

Any comments or suggestions.

XP Pro.
Can't say this strongly enough.
Vista might be viable in a couple of years; for now, don't commit IT suicide--get the XP...

I just helped setting up an office with three computers with Open Dental. All the of them are with Vista Home Premium. I wanted to save some money and have media center functions. That is why I didn't go for Vista Business or Vista Premuim. Also I am afraid that XP support may go down several years later. So I picked Vista.

It is a lot of hassel. Also be prepared to have at least 2GB of memory in your computer. You can get it from Amazon for $20 1GB.

XDR had problems running Vista in a network evnvironment. Dr. Yoon has solved the problem by changing a register setting. Great csutomer service! If you use Sota intra-oral camera, get the latest version of XDR. Otherwise, the capture button won't work.

If remote-desktop is a must for you, then you have to get at least Vista Business or XP Pro. But you can always get a free logmein to access your computer away from office. Be aware the mechanism is different. Oen is remote session and the other is direct desktop access.

Good luck.
