Envisioning the Perfect Open Dental Setup

Post by KevinRossen » Fri Nov 10, 2017 8:44 pm

Hey Everyone. A couple months ago my eyes were opened up to what I can see as becoming the perfect setup for using Open Dental: published apps via Remote Desktop Services. That's technical jargon, but essentially what it will enable you to do two things that lots of people ask for. You can run Open Dental in the "cloud" and you can run Open Dental from a Mac. I've not yet gotten this setup for myself, but I've seen it implemented first-hand. A fellow Open Dental user had his MacBook with an icon on his desktop. Double click that icon (we were away from his office) and his Open Dental app opened right there basically as a native Mac app. It was very impressive.

To me, this goes beyond just Open Dental on a Mac or in the cloud. It frees up tons of options, like running Open Dental on an iPad or Chromebook. I am not sure how well taking x-rays from a Mac or Chromebook would work, but the other functionality would be there.

I'm posting this for two reasons. First, wanted to see who out there is already doing this. And second, I will come back and post updates as I test this out myself.

Example of a Windows app on an iPad:
