How to Backup

I tried to use "synctoy" microsofts automatic file sync software. When it runs in the middle of the night I can never copy the Mysql folder without getting errors. My guess is that some of the files are in use by OD. Any suggestions?

Im looking for an automated backup solution. OD backup feature in the software is nice but it requires me to click a button every night.

SyncToy should be able to copy files that are in use by MySQL or OD. What do the errors say when you encounter them?

So i opened up the failed synctoy and it wasnt the MYSQL files. Those copied fine. It was my xrays.


On a side not though. Maybe using synctoy is a bad options. If I get ransomware then i will just sync the virus.

Whats the best way to do this?

To clarify our stance on SyncToy, we recommend it as a way to replicate folders when you want to have your images available at multiple locations (useful when replicating MySQL). It is not an effective way to backup your database for the exact reason you mentioned: If a cryptovirus hits your system, it will be able to encrypt your backups since they are on the same network. To truly back up your data, you need it at an offsite location that is on a completely separate network. In all this, be sure to keep HIPAA compliance in mind. I use synctoy to back up to a dropbox folder on my local intranet...which is saved offsite. Even this though I still risk copying the virus, which would turn my backup plan to garbage.

On any paid account with Dropbox they do keep file versions for the past 30 days at minimum, so you would probably be okay if a virus hit. In order to be HIPAA compliant with Dropbox, you will need a Dropbox Business account and you will have to sign a Business Associate Agreement.
