Text Messaging

Post by JLM » Wed Aug 03, 2016 4:13 pm

I am switching from Lighthouse to the integrated texting.
I opened up the port on my router and opened the port on my firewall.
I completed the signup.
How do I know if it is working properly before I pull the plug? Any simple tests?

Integrated texting doesn't need a port on your router forwarded because it utilizes the eConnector:

I would text your cell phone (or a friends) and then have them reply to the message and then both should eventually show up in the Text Messaging window if it is working properly:

Correction, the eConnector doesn't need a port forwarded if it is set to Proxy mode.

I knew it seemed too easy to setup. I haven't been able to successfully forward a port on my CenturyLink DSL modem the past ten years. Any other router it is a breeze.
Thanks for the info.

It's extremely easy to set up proxy mode (all from Open Dental, no router manipulation needed). Feel free to call in and our eService team can help you get it working if you feel like tapping out (I'd recommend being on the most recent stable version or above if you aren't already). The main thing that fights with the eConnector is typically firewalls:
