Is anyone using the Messaging feature? If so, do you like it and how are you utilizing it?
Thanks in advance.

If you are looking for feedback from other OD users, you might want to post this on our Main Forum. The people who usually browse this forum are the programming, IT type. We programmers would be happy to answer any technical questions you have about messaging!

Text messaging is a must for any dental office. If you are not using any Text Messaging service, it is time to start. Immediate access and immediate response from your patients .
Open Dental already has all the features ready for text messaging from inside OD, and all communications are kept in the patient chart.
We use text messaging for patient appointment confirmation, for recall, for patients that still need treatment to be done, etc...
It works much better than Emails.

But with text messaging you need a permission from your patient to send them SMS. HIPPA REGULATIONS.
An email need a password to be accessed by the receiver, but an SMS can be seen by anyone who has access to the cellphone.

For all our existing patients, and for few months, we prepared a very small form asking every patient who walked through our doors to update their email address, their cell phone number, and why not, the medical history too. If the patient has new medical problems, a complete medical history form was required.

For all new patients, our new forms request this info as well

Patient Information - Update
Last Name: ______________________ M_____ First Name ______________________
Home phone: (_____ )________________ Work phone: (_____ )__________________
Address: _____SAME_________________________________________State: ______________
City:__________________________________________________Zip: ________________
Email: ___________________________________________________________________
Wireless Phone: (_____ )_______________ O YES O NO to receive text messages

Medical Hiistory - Update
Has there been any change in your health since the last dental appointment? 0 Yes 0 No
For what conditions? _________________________________________________________
Is the patient taking any new medications? __________ If so, what? ________________________
________________________________________________________________________

Date _______________ Patient Signature _____________________________________

If you are asking about the internal office messaging buttons...we use it on every patient. I have a button setup for each of my hygiene rooms. When they are ready for the patient exam they use the button designated for their room to let me know that they are ready. It works terrific.
