Capitation Plans & Gross Production

Post by KevinRossen » Wed Apr 01, 2015 9:00 am

Is there some documentation on how the software handles capitation plans in regards to Gross Production? I've got a client who is seeing inconsistent gross production numbers between the monthly Production report and the daily totals. I've never seen that before. It looks like their capitation plans are what is causing the problem. Specificially, the gross production numbers are not the same. That doesn't seem like it should be happening.

Any ideas on what is going on?

In general, capitation writeoffs are subtracted from the fees on procedures to get gross production. This usually solves the problem.

We do not recommend having more than one capitation plan for a single patient. If you do so, you must manually change the secondary capitation plan’s write-off amounts for each procedure and Open Dental reports will give incorrect production numbers. To fix production numbers, run Query #911, then delete any duplicate 'CapCom' status insurance estimates so that there is only one 'CapCom' estimate for each procedure.

I read that page, but it doesn't really explain how they're fully handled. The procedurelog table keeps the standard fee of the procedures on capitation plans, but the account module shows the fee as 0. I've gotten close to making a query work with this, but I can't get the numbers to match what is showing in the production and income report.

The general formula for gross production of a procedure assuming ONLY one capcomplete insurance estimate per procedure is as follows: (Procedure Fee * (Procedure unity quantity + Procedure code base units)) - capcomplete writeoff amount

Therefore, if you have a $100.00 procedure fee, 1 unit quantity, 0 base units, and $75.00 capitation writeoff, your "fee" or gross production is $25.00.
