Perio Charting - 3rd party software

Post by aaronriechers » Thu Feb 19, 2015 3:31 pm

Our office is new to OD (just converted last month)

Following up on kjensen's post (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5744#p25057), I'm hoping to compile a list of 3rd party perio software available, since OpenDental's perio charting features for hands-free input are limited (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5744#p25069).

I have reservations about using 3rd party software, as it means another bridge, maintenance of another database in a different/proprietary format, which means another potential problem if there are technical issues, upgrades, loss of technical support, etc (for example, PerioPal went out of business - can you export the data into OpenDental or other software?). That being said, unless/until OpenDental implements features for hands-free/voice-activation for perio charting (feature request #83), we will probably be forced to use 3rd party software because of our small office's limited staffing.

So, if the OD community would be willing to share their thoughts & information, that would be very helpful for our office. Thanks in advance!

Here is a list of perio charting software I have found so far, information about pricing, features, etc. based on website listings, personal communication with sales reps, etc.

PerioPal - obsolete (the company went bankrupt)

Florida Probe FP32: (getting quote)
http://www.floridaprobe.com/fp32software.htm
Intended for use with florida probe or dolphin probe, but sounds like voice activation features are included, so it could be used as perio chart software without FP hardware
Bridge included in OpenDental

Florida Probe VoiceWorks: $1000/proprietary headset, $80/mo "software subscription" + $10/mo per extra headset (getting quote for "stand-alone" price)
http://www.floridaprobe.com/betavoice.htm
The whole point is to be user-friendly to voice activation; however, you are forced to use their proprietary headset ($1k, seriously)
No bridge that I am aware of, as of yet

Panda Perio
http://pandaperio.com/
30-day free-trial, $99/month subscription, installed on server & all workstations.
"Voice-activation compatible" is misleading - they recommend using the Dental Rat.
Bridge in OpenDental recently implemented
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5352&p=23214&hilit=panda#p23214

DenChart
http://denchart.com/features/compare-editions/
In professional version: Voice activation, automatic feedback, dictation
OpenDental bridge is impossible? (feature request #2957)
Pricey: $600/operatory, $500 for server if >1 operatory, $350 annual support

VoicePro (Dentrix) - unclear whether this can be purchased as a stand-alone 3rd party software. Obviously meant to be used with Dentrix. (eaglesoft has the same kind of thing)
