Microchipped credit cards

Post by fishdrzig » Thu Aug 07, 2014 11:13 am

We tried to swipe one of the new microchipped credit cards through our little USB swipe machine yesterday and it wouldn't register. Is anyone else come across this and if so, what is the solution?

Microchipped cards? If I were to hazard a guess, the UK uses a "Chip and Pin" system that may be the culprit, was the card from outside the united states?

Canada has had them for awhile. I am guessing with the security breaches they will start popping up in the US more often. It looks like a SIM card embedded on the card. We will have to probably upgrade our card readers...For now when we come across of these we just manually enter the number.

This technology is pretty common in the rest of the world. The cards to require an insertable card reader. If your terminal doesn't support the microchipped cards, you may need to upgrade the terminal. As others have mentioned, you should still be able to type the card # in. Contact your Merchant Services vendor to see if there is anything they can suggest.
