Deleting an out of date code

Post by Shoagland » Fri Feb 21, 2014 10:13 am

I want to get rid of a code that is out of date, or inactivate it, how is this done? Thank you?

change it's category to "NeverUsed" or" Obsolete." You can't ever delete one.

That is correct. Here's some help on how to change procedure code categories:

Out of curiosity, if the procedure code never appeared in the procedurelog, would anything happen to the Open Dental program if you deleted the code using a MySQL query? I know that's frowned upon, but was wondering what would happen?

To be honest, I've never worked up the courage to try this but I've heard rumors that this would happen:

Sorry to reopen an old thread. Is there a way to prevent users from using "obsolete" codes?

If they're searching for it you may just want to change the description and abbreviation to something that the search won't figure out. For example if you don't want them to use the perio exam, change it to anyrandomword. It's the only way I know to prevent it from being searchable. I personally think that when the procedure list is opened not all procedure categories should be pre-selected which would help rectify this situation, but changing functionality is always tricky so for now the only real solution to making it completely un-usable is to change its description, abbreviation and categories to something completely different. Sadly the ProcCode is un-editable so there's not much you can do about that. Maybe the ability to hide procedure codes would be great.
