Searching for "botox" in patient notes

Post by aussiedentist » Wed Jan 01, 2014 3:59 pm

I need to be able to search, or do a query where i can look for the a certain word, say 'botox", and then have a list of patients who have this word ANYWHERE in their clinical notes, but i am not sure how to do this

Can anyone help me out please?

I guess it depends on your definition of "clinical notes" and especially where you write down those notes. That will greatly impact the answer to this inquiry. Do you store these notes in the text box under the tooth chart, in the notes of procedures, in the medical history section of the medical window, etc, etc. Once that is determined, then finding a query will be easier.

The hardest would be if you want one query to search all notes throughout the software (completely possible). I don't think someone has asked for that yet and it would most likely be a query request.

I'd recommend checking out the query examples page and adding a filter of "notes" if you haven't already. That gets a manageable (but not necessary complete) list of queries to look at. Queries 404 and 559 are good examples if you keep clinical notes within the procedure's note section.

The best thing about a boolean is even if you are wrong, you are only off by a bit.
